Primous Fountain is an American symphonic composer whose work has developed independently into a body of large-scale orchestral compositions marked by architectural breadth, structural rigor, and sustained expressive force.

Raised in Chicago’s Ida B. Wells community, Fountain’s early environment cultivated resilience, inward discipline, and artistic independence. Entirely self-taught, he began composing instinctively, guided by inner hearing rather than institutional training. His early works were completed with fluency, reflecting a natural compositional impulse.

A decisive turning point came with Symphony No. 2. For the first time, Fountain encountered a work that resisted immediate realization. What began as creative impasse became structural expansion. The symphonies that followed expanded dramatically in scale. Symphony No. 8 exceeds 400 pages in full score. The recently completed Symphony No. 9, composed over approximately two years and refined through sustained reconsideration, extends to approximately 463 pages. His orchestral work has previously drawn the attention of major conducting figures, including a program devoted entirely to his compositions presented at the invitation of a leading American conductor with a prominent symphonic institution.
